The Early Jurassic

Ichthyosaurs fed on ancient cephalopods shelled relatives of squid called belemnites and amonities in addition to fish. Ichthyosaurus (fish lizard ) was about 6.5 feet long.  It  lasted from the Early Jurassic to the first part of the Late Cretaceous.

Eurhinosaurus was 6.f feet and lived in Europe. The upper jaw was twice as long as the lower, making it look like a sawfish. Teeth stuck out sideways along the jaw but the use is unknown
 
Ichthyosaurus (fish lizard ) one of the smaller but better known members of the family. Fossills that it gave birth to live young, head first,rather than returning to land to lay eggs.

This Starlux ichthyosaur looks like a Eurhinosaurus.

Ichthyosaurus had a stream lined body shape like  today's dolphins and gave birth to live young. The young were born head first to prevent drowning.   The physical convengence with dolphins, tuna and sharks makes it likely that icthyosaurs filled a similar ecological role. The must have hunted fast swimming prey in the open oceans and in the depths.

Invicta Ichthyosaurus and Plesiosaurus swim above.  This figure is most likely intended to be Elasmosaurus as the term plesiosaur is often used as a generic term for all the family.
