The Early Jurassic
Ichthyosaurs fed on ancient cephalopods shelled relatives of squid called belemnites and amonities in addition to fish. Ichthyosaurus (fish lizard ) was about 6.5 feet long. It lasted from the Early Jurassic to the first part of the Late Cretaceous.
Safari Carnegie Ichthyosaurus
Eurhinosaurus was 6.f feet and lived in Europe. The upper
jaw was twice as long as the lower, making it look
like a sawfish. Teeth stuck out sideways along the jaw but
the use is unknown |

Ichthyosaurus had a stream lined body shape like today's dolphins and gave birth to live young. The young were born head first to prevent drowning. | The physical convengence with dolphins, tuna and sharks makes it likely that icthyosaurs filled a similar ecological role. The must have hunted fast swimming prey in the open oceans and in the depths. | |
