Dinosaur Park Formation
There is a transition in the assemblage with Daspletosaurus coexisting with Gorgosaurus then replacing it as the top predator. Lambeosaurines and centrosaurines are the most common herbivores. Hypacrosaurus replaces the related Corthyosaurus from the lower and middle of the formation. Styracosaurus has a skeleton very similar to Centrosaurus from the lower part of the formation and may have been the same genus. Vagaceratops was initally though to be a form of the earlier Chasmosaurus. Euplocephalus contines to be present.
Daspletosaurus is a potential ancestor of Tyrannosaurus. It hadshort deep jaws, and a broad hip girdle fused to the backbone. There were 3 large toes on its feet, plus a smaller first toe turned back.
Daspletosaurus has a more robust build compared to the albertosaurs like Gorgosaurus.
Hypacrosaurus
had a short, high skull and small fat crest, from the rear of which a
solid, bony spike jutted down and back. A high ridge on its back may
have acted as a radiator, or been used for display. Euplocephalus fossils maybe split up into two additional different species, Scolosaurus and Dyoplosaurus.
