Kaiparowits Formation

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is located in the southern part of Utah in the western United States. A warm, shallow sea flooded much of central North America, dividing the continent into two land masses: Laramidia in the west and Appalachia in the east. This Late Cretaceous formation was formed from alluvial floodplains of large rivers in coastal southern Laramidia. There were coelurosaurian theropods such as dromaeosaurids, troodontids, and Ornithomimus velox, armored dinosaurs, horned dinosaurs, the duckbill Parasaurolophus cyrtocristatus, large specimens of the duckbill Gryposaurus and a variety of early mammals.
